TPS57040-Q1: The timing of DCM and Eco-mode

Part Number: TPS57040-Q1

Hi Team,

I have question about the timing of changing from DCM to Eco-mode for TPS57040. I found the explanation but I want to know how to calculate this value.  Could you tell me how to calcurate these value.(P.35, 8.2.2.11 Discontinuous Mode and Eco-mode Boundary.

I am awaiting your reply

Thanks,

Masayuki

  • Masayuki,

This is the  best reference I know of concerning eco-mode boundary:

The bottom line is that is not possible to accurately predict the exact eco-mode boundary condition.

  • Hello John,

Thank you for your reply.  I understand it. I have other question from customer. Customer concerned about Eco-mode.

    - Although the condition to enter Eco mode is determined by element dispersion Can we consider that the condition will fluctuate little?

(I mean it will be difficult to enter Eco mode while using it although initially in Eco mode)

    I am awaiting your reply.

    Thanks,

    Masayuki

  • Masayuki,

Yes, for the same IC and same circuit, the conditions for entering eco-mode should remain constant.  If you have or more different boards could have different thresholds.  For a given IC and circuit, you cannot accurately predict the threshold from calculations.
