TLC59208F: Maximum Current of all LED Driver Pins

Part Number: TLC59208F

Hello,

I wanted to ask for clarification on what the total maximum current that the TLC59208F device can handle. The ABS MAX table and recommended table state 50mA but they are not clear on if that is a per channel limit or for the entire device limt. I searched the rest of the datasheet and other E2E posts and could not find the answer.

My gut reaction is 50mA seems low for a total device current since the maximum on state resistance is stated as 3.75Ω @ 3V VCC and 50mA load current. Quick sanity check, at 50mA and 3.75Ω there is 9.375mW (0.05*0.05*3.75) of power dissipated internal to the device per channel. Even with the TSSOP package and a thetaJA of 108°C/W that is only self-heating 1.0125°C above ambient per channel.

I also looked at the EVM and it looks like its default configuration is to have the red LED @ 20mA, the Green LED @ 20mA and the blue LED to 20mA. So total the default setting is 60mA total. Can you please clarify if 50mA is a per channel current limit or a total device current limit?

Thanks,

John
