BQ25890: Is it possible to disable HVDCP handshake in hardware?

Part Number: BQ25890
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895M

I'm using bq25890.

I want to only use the 5V handshake, but now I don't want to enable the device to be charged with 9V.

In REG02, the HVDCP_EN register can be used to enable/disable the HVDCP handshake.

Using software, the REG can only be accessed when the device has been powered up, but the HVDCP handshake processed may already have been finished.

So, is there any way to disable the HVDCP handshake in hardware?

Thank you.

  • Frank,

Your understanding is correct. BQ25890 has HVDCP_EN as enabled by default and can't be changed before power up. However, the case is only valid when the battery is depleted or absent. You can have the HVDCP_EN set as disabled to keep the setting with a battery connected (the watchdog timer is also disabled). If you want the the HVDCP_EN disabled by default, you can check out BQ25895M. The major difference of BQ25895M vs BQ25890 is the Q1 FET is off for BQ25895M and Q1 is ON for BQ25890 during the OTG operation.
