In general, a PD can meet MPS by supplying at least 0.5W to the PSE (usually meets the MPS spec by the load going into normal operation).
We have one family of PDs that do a feature called “automatic MPS”. This means the PD itself will automatically output the MPS pulses when the load is in light or no load. This is the TPS2372 and TPS2373. Some applications takes advantage of this feature is dual input PoE applications and PoE lighting.
The TPS23752 is a slightly different approach. It does Sleep mode. This means the DCDC converter must first turn OFF for the PD to output MPS pulses. The MPS pulses will NOT turn ON when the PD is in normal operation. This is explained in more detail in the following app note.
