I like to know how many watts to choice the PFC topologies?

For example

<100Watts choice DCM single end, 100Watss-150Watts choice CRM single end, 150Watss-300Watts choice CRM or CCM single end.

Nowadays, we can choose the TM(transition mode), but I don't understand the TM exactly.
And, I wanna know how many watts a single end PFC (one MOSFET, inductor) could achieve.

Is any Paper, Mathcad to prove that.

Hi Andy,

For single phase TM, you get about 300W. For interleaved TM, you can get about 300W to 700W. For single phase CCM, you can get from 300W to a couple kW. For interleaved CCM, you can do 700W and above. Please note these are not hard rules but more general guidelines.

Transition mode works at the boundary of DCM and CCM. The switching frequency changes with the instantaneous line voltage and with output power.

I got it.
And, what part number I can choose if a PFC about 600W???
UCC2805X, UCC2806X, UCC2807X? What difference with among them??

And why "a single phase TM, you get about 300W"?
If TM means DCM<->CRM, as I know the CRM achieves 150W maximum (same inductor and MOSFET spec with CCM).

I'm not sure that, proved in Mathcad is easier.
Do you have any calculation to prove above?

Hi Andy,

UCC2805x is single phase TM and would not be able to deliver 600W. UCC2806x is interleaved TM and is able to support 600W. UCC28070 is interleaved CCM and is likely overkill for 600W.

single phase TM is capable of achieving up to 300W with reasonable designs. If you go higher than this the peak current in the inductor and power stage becomes more challenging to handle. You would have to use larger core sizes, FETs with better current capability, etc. To show some evidence that TM can do up to 300W take a look at PMP9531. This is a 350W reference design using TM PFC UCC28051: http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP9531. (Again, the 300W number is more a general guideline, it is not a hard rule.)

UCC28060 does not have a mathcad calculator available but does have an excel calculator. You can find it at the bottom of this page:www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware
