TPS43060: About boot pin noise

Part Number: TPS43060

Hi,

Noise occurred on the Boot pin on the customer's board.
The noise level is about 8.5V (3nsec).
However, the DC level is within the absolute maximum ratings.
There is no AC level regulation in the data sheet.
We want to see how this noise can affect device destruction.
Could you give me your advice?

And Could you share the schematic and waveform using a private message?

Best Regards,
Yusuke

  • Hi Yusuke-san,

Thank you for posting.  The 8V rating is the Absolute max rating, which in this case should be considered including the ac transient.  To prevent destruction to the IC, you may consider to add a series resistor to the boot diode, or apply an external Zener across BOOT and SW pins, to protect the IC pins from exceeding the max rating.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Xi-san,

Thank you for your response and support.
"The 8V rating is the Absolute max rating, which in this case should be considered including the ac transient."
    I understand.
”add a series resistor to the boot diode, or apply an external Zener across BOOT and SW pins, to protect the IC pins from exceeding the max rating.”
Could you tell me the recommended component values?

I want to share you current parts and waveform information.
And I want you to advise the recommended constants to remove noise.

    Best Regards,
    Yusuke

  • Regarding the diode, it should sustain the rating of VIN_max + 8V.  The diode basically supply current to the driver, which is basically Qg x Fsw.   As a quick recommendation, 100V 1A Schottky diode should work.

The resistor can be tween 2 Ohm to 10 Ohm, and this should be tested to verify the effectiveness.

Regarding the Zener, you may consider to choose a Zener to clamp at 7.8V.

    Thanks,

    Youhao
