BQ2970: External Current Sense Resistor

Part Number: BQ2970
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77904, BQ4050

Hello,

I have a system with some odd requirements. I want to mod the typical circuit to do what I want.

First off, I need to monitor a pre-built battery pack that has two cells in series. I want to simply resistor divide the voltage in half to put it in the working range on the bq29700. Is there any reason that I cant do this?

Also, we plan on charging the battery at 9A but the battery max charge rate is 10A. Because of this I want to use an external sense resist instead of the RDS for the tight tolerance.

Also I dont want to be sensing RDS on at all. Is there any reason I can do the circuit I did below?

I also would like an IC with temperature sensing and the Bq77904 almost works but i cant make it work with my 2 cell battery. Is there any other IC out there that might be more applicable.

Thanks,

John
