BQ25504 reference design capacitor substitution

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25504

Hi,

I am looking at the reference design document for the BQ25504 and see that there are a number of capacitors listed with the comment 'cannot be substituted' (page 12 of http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu654a/sluu654a.pdf). Why is this? Could a user not replace the capacitor with a similar ceramic capacitor from another manufacturer or even within the family (i.e. another X5R or X7R capacitor)? It seems to be a really strange comment.

Thanks,

DJ

  • I apologize for the confusion.  That note is intended for our EVM assembler.  The intent was to ensure that a low leakage capacitor (X5R, X7R or COG) is used.  Leakage current in the that capacitor will lower the MPPT threshold voltage.
