Charging ic - bq24133

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24133

Dear Rachel ,

I have seen your reply . In my application i want to use a Battery charging circuit for 7.4 V , 2600 mah Battery . For that i have seen BQ24133 - a charging circuit . Now in this i want to know how the charging and discharging will be done and some more information about its working . In datasheet there are only factors given for it . But not i cannot find any information about its charging strategies like charging and discharging time . Protection circuit from main supply . That is the reason why i have asked you for a presentation or any other document related stuff on its functionality . Please kindly help me in this regard .

Thanks and Regards ,

  • Hello Sarat,

I will try and take your questions one at a time:

    Charging Strategies:

The charging strategy is indicated in the Fig 17 on Pg 16 of the datasheet. Depending on the battery voltage it will either start in precharge or charge and proceed in constant current until the regulation voltage is reached at which point it enters a constant voltage and the current is reduced to maintain that voltagethrough charging until the termination current is reached.

    Charging Time:

This is layout/design and battery dependent. You will need to look at the charging current you are wanting to use relative to the battery capacity.

    Discharge Time:

This is entirely dependent on your battery and your load and is not influenced by the charger outside of quiescent currents.

    Input Protection:

There is an adjustable, integrated OVP circuit that will turn off the input FET in the event that a voltage above the design threshold is present.  Please see Pg 3 and 18 of the datasheet.

Please take some time and thoroughly read the datasheet to help gain an understanding of the operation of this device. While some of your questions might not have clear answers the first time that you read it the datasheet is designed to equip you with almost all of the information that you will need to incorporate this part into your design.

Let me know if you have any further questions after you have had a chance to read the datasheet.
