bq24193 JEITA profile

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24193, BQ24192

Hi all,

We are using BQ24193 battery charger for our handheld device.

following are our battery spec

Capacity  - 1650mAh

Charging Voltage - 4.2V

Standard Charge - 0.5C CC charge to 4.2V
Standard Charge Temperature  - 0°C ~ 45°C

While charging, charging voltage is limited to 4.05V(it is 85% of my battery capacity). If i change JEITA_VSET bit to 1 battery capacity is going to 100%.

I want to know whether these setting(JEITA_VSET bit to 1) will affect my battery performance since my battery Standard Charging Temperature is rated as 0°C to 45°C.

Regards,

Manoj

  • Hi Manoj,

The bq24193 has built-in JEITA profile that can reduce charge voltage from 4.2V to 4.05V between 45C-60C. It sounds like what you experience at 85% charge is due to temperature > 45C (assume you use standard thermistor setup similar to datasheet recommende). If JEITA_VSET=1 is selected, the charge voltage would be kept at 4.2V between 45-60C. Please check with battery vendor to see if this will affect battery life or any safety issue. Judging from your battery spec stated, this seems to be out of the specification.

If you don't want batttery to be charged when temperature > 45C , please consider bq24192 device. The two chargers are pin-to-pin and software compatible with the temperature profile (cold/hot vs JEITA) as the difference. More details can be found on p.2 (bq2419x Family Table) on the datasheet.
