Dual Charger that supports two input voltages

Hi BMS team,

I need a dual input battery charger that supports the following inputs:

1) 25W Output from PoE PD (TPS2678)

2) 12 VDC Input Jack

This is to charge a 12000mAh, single cell li-ion battery pack.

All of the dual input battery chargers I've seen are primarily USB + DC input, but this is not what I need.

Do we have something for this?

No but we can add external FETs and some other circuitry to switch between the inputs. What other charge specs are needed:
-charge current?- host communication protocol?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your response. I'm waiting on getting the charging current desired, but considering that the battery is 12000mAh, I would assume that they would want high charge current - probably >4 A if possible.

Could you elaborate on the circuitry needed to interface the two power supplies into one charger? Would this consist of an ORing controller or something similar?

Also, host communication is up in the air. Thinking either standalone charger if possible or MSP which could do I2C, SPI, etc.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for this, its exactly what I was looking for.

If the charge current needs to be > 2.1A (the greater the better) and the input voltage needs to be ~12V or greater (considering output from the PoE PD is ~40+V, might need a buck here?), could you recommend a battery charger?

Update: TPS23756 supports 12V wall adapter + PoE 25W in.
