bq24075 heating issue

Dear sir,
We are using BQ24075 charger ic in our design for power manegment.
After being tested we have following question-
1. Why IC get heated tremendously during charging of li-on battery.?
2.charger IC remains heated continuesly when VIN supply(4.4V) and battery is connected..

  • Based on the device dissipation ratings, the package temperature will increase 39.47 degree C with every watt of power dissipation. So depends on your current level, you can calculate the expected temperature rise. The temperature will be higher when battery voltage is low as the IC will have more power dissipation.

    Apart from the IC itself, the board layout also matters. Pg#36 of the bq24075 datasheet has the layout example.
