bq25890 vs bq25892 vs bq25895

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25890, BQ25895, BQ25892

Dear TI,

We are evaluating the bq2589x family (sreceived full bq25890_2 datasheet but still waiting for the datasheet of the bq25895..)

Questions:

In the datasheet SLUSBU7A page 50. REG14 is R/W bits PN[1]/[0] define the device configuration, it these are read/write than basically the chip can be used in both setups, I am correct?

OTG current limiting: does the devices work in constant current mode(with voltage dropped offcourse) if the OTG current is exceeded ? Does it cut of the VUSB OTG voltage if below 3.8V or works normally in constant current mode, regardless of the output voltage?

We have a preliminary version of the bq25895 pdf, based on that the questions are:

bq25895 is it possible to connect PMID boost mode output to VBUS to use one USB input and OTG connector?

Diff. between bq25890/2 and bq25895 is PMID output and JEITA/Hot-Cold charging scheme, or also some other major feature?

11.4.15.1 Over-Current Protection
(bq25890/bq25892)
The charger device closely monitors the RBFET (Q1), HSFET (Q2), and LSFET (Q3) current to ensure
safe boost ode
operation. During over-current condition when output current exceed (IRBFET_OCP) the device will operate
in hiccup mode ...

(bq25895)
This feature is not available for power bank spin  - what does this mean??

Br,

Laszlo

  • Dear TI,

Meantime i've got the datasheet, thank you, and could answer to some of the questions comparing the two pdf-s, although would be nice to have a confirmation.

    - OTG overcurrent not settable on the bq25895 bits BOOST_LIM reserved.
    - After OTG overcurrent the device will operate in hick-up mode
    - REG14 is R/W bits PN[2]/[1]/[0] are probably read only
    - Major diff. between bq25895 vs bq25890/2 is the thermistor charge profile, settable OTG output current, and VOTG output pin.

    Happy thanksgiving,

    Laszlo
  • Yes to:

    Also, bq25895 has D+/D- like bq25890.
