BQ24295 OTG and REG questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295, BQ24292I, BQ24296

Hi,

1. I am using the BQ24295 GUI, and when I check the USB OTG to 1.3A, the REG01 bit 0 changes to 1. However, looking at the datasheet, it says that REG01 bit 0 is Reserved (set to 1). Is the GUI not up to date, or is this a typo on the datasheet?

2. Is there a specific purpose for the FORCE_20PCT bit besides an easy 1 bit change to the charge current? When would one use that bit?

Thanks,

Josh

  • Hi Josh,

The BQ24295 GUI applies to all the BQ2429x family of parts, including the BQ24292i, 296, 297, and 298.

Changing the USB OTG field updates the field in the GUI. In fact, if you do not have any device plugged in, you can update each register field even without R/W to a device to see what value the register will give you.

With that in mind, changing that bit while the BQ24296 is plugged in will not affect that bit.

The wording is 1.3A and 500mA applies specifically to the BQ24292i.

To your second question, FORCE_20CT is a 1b change to the charge and precharge currents. This can be useful if a load begins to drive down your battery voltage below the recharge threshold, restarting the charge cycle at full. You may want to recharge at a lower rate.
