BQ24616: Charging issue

Part Number: BQ24616

Hi ,

We designed 8800mAH battery charger using BQ24616RGER IC. but we are facing issue with battery charging. When I probe using oscilloscope at the inductor switching terminal I see it switches and turn off immidiatly. I see only 200mAmps current flows it switches to 1A at starts and   switches between 400mA to 200mA.

Attached the circuit. R60, R61,R62 replaced with 10K resistor to limit the current.

charger input voltage is 15Volts/5Amps,

  • Hello Chandrashekhar,

Are your input capacitors (C164, C165 and C166) located very close to M3 drain and output capacitors (C168, C169 and C170) located very close to R47 and SRN? Also, in the layout, is VFB sensing point located at VBAT or at the SRN trace?

You should change the location of C164, C165 and C166 very close to M3 drain.

In the schematic, you can remove R45, as you have both R45 and R46 in parallel for a total of 500ohm, unless this is what you intended.

I believe this would require a layout change, let me know if you have any questions regarding the layout. Review the layout guidelines that are on page 32 of the datasheet.

    Regards,
    Steven
