BQ24190: VBAT OVP typ 104%

Hello

My customer use BQ24190 for their new product FY2018.

Customer' s question is " why VBAT_OVP is 104% typ ? the reason?"

I intend to explain to customer as following

First, BQ24190 VBAT_OVP is set as 104% typ.

That is to say,if battery id suddenly removed, BAT voltage rises but stop charging

in case over 104%.

So, it means bq24190 has more faster ( safety )protection than competitor.

For example, RT9458 VBATOVP is 117%.

Above story is incorrect?

    Hello,

    The VBAT_OVP on the charger should be a secondary protection measure. The protection device in the pack will break the charge path at a lower voltage than the voltage of the 104% on the charger (which is regulated with 0.5% accuracy on the charger side), and will keep a charger from charging a battery at a higher voltage than the pack is designed for with a longer response time. The charger will prevent against a situation with fast transients with a faster response time.

    104% was a decision based on the size and power consumption of the device.
