BQ25601: Limiting battery inrush current - Softstart

Part Number: BQ25601

Is there any mitigation for limit inrush current when connecting a battery or when turning on the BATFET
with a battery already connected? My VSYS is bypassed with about 13-15uF of input capacitance to
my PMIC but I need to limit any inrush currents to less than 3A.

  • Hey Daniel,

We do not have an inrush current limiting feature through our BATFET (Q4).

What performance issue have you seen or expect to see with this inrush current? Is your battery removeable/hot-pluggable?

  • I do not plan on hot plugging the battery. However, when I turn the BATFET (Q4) on I do not want to impose a high (>3A) current
spike on the battery due to charge up current of the VSYS capacitors. Not sure what it will be until I can prototype this situation
and measure it. Just wondering if there was an easy way to be assured of not violating this spec.

  • Hey Daniel,

I will also note that the recommended design of the charger already has a 10uF capacitor on the BAT pin.

SYS also has a recommended 20uF.
