BQ24259: Behavior of SYS when no battery is connected

Part Number: BQ24259

In some cases, it might be desirable to disconnected the battery (BATFET Off). We might also have product without the battery.

Can you tell us what is the behavior of SYS in those conditions? What voltage can we expect at the SYS pin when the battery is disconnected or not present? Basically can we use the device as a buck converter to convert the input voltage to a lower value.

  • When no battery is connected while charge is enable, the SYS will oscillate betweeen charge voltage and recharge threshold. The frequency of oscillation will depends on the capacitance on SYS. Essentially, the cap would be treated like a battery.

If such behavior is not desirable, we would recommend to disable charge and device would regulate SYS to Sysmin voltage.
