I suggest considering the bq24210 solar powered battery charger IC. It will be the most efficiency solution because it will pull the maximum current available from the solar cell to charge the Li-Ion battery. This configuration drives the load from the battery, so you will not need an additional buck...

Although The bq24210 datasheet does not explicitely mention MPP tracking, the bq24210 will perform this function. The function is provided by the VDPM pin. The function is described in the datasheet. To summarize, the charger reduces its input current to maintain a minimum input voltage. You will...

  • Forum Post: bq24210 with low current solar cell

Hi, i want to use the bq24210 to charge a Li-Ion Batterie. I switch between two sources. One is a inductive charger and the other is a low current solar cell with only Iout=4mA @MPP. Would this IC work with this low solar cell current? Best regards

The bq24210 will not work with an input source that is only capable of 4mA. Although the bq24210 quiescent current is only 800uA when charging, the minimum recommended charge current is 50mA. Please consider the bq25504. It is considered an "energy harvesting" IC that is designed to operate...

First of all thank you very much for your answer! I also looked on BQ24210 but I read that it doesn't work for small currents. Do you recommend another component for this application?

You can use the bq24210 with a lower charge current than 50mA, but the charge current tolerance gets much larger at low charge currents. If you do not need extremely accurate charge currents, you can use the bq24210 to charge with less than 50mA. The datasheet provides the charge current tolerance across...

Hi, we are developing the PCB for the electronic inside our new product. We are using your BQ24210, but in its datasheet there isn't any indication or consideration on pcb layout, in addition we are using Eagle CAD like PCB CAD, but we didn't find any library for the BQ24210 IC. When is...
