BQ76PL536 Cell balancing optimum/practical safety timer value
I am using BQ56PL536 in one of my projects. I am using the Cell Balancing algorithm with the device. I would like to know the considerations in choosing a safe/optimal/practical value for the safety timeout.
Thanks in advance for the help.
It's hard to say without knowing your cell balancing current, algorithm, application, cell capacity, cell imbalances and etc....
Safety timer is your back up. We recommend you to use this feature but hopefully your system not end up using this feature.
The max safety timer is 63mins.
If your cell balancing current is 150mA then you will drain ~150mA from your cell. This is in idle mode.
I don't know your cell capacity but you can do simple math. It may not be a big loss but you need to consider the heat( WATT) on your board.
There is some information in the datasheet and you should read it.
Invite me to your friend and then we can talk more detail about your system.
