I installed bqWizard ver 3.2, saved the configuration to a dat file, reloaded the dat file.  Still cannot read or write via 0x80 or 0x81.  If I try to read gateway status at 0x80 it returns 0xFF, 0xFF.  If I use bqWizard Utilities-> SB Data Read/Write any operation returns an error.  I can read and write via bqWizard via the register tabs fine but that is using a different method of communication that is not in the documentation.

Please ensure you are using a NON-Windows 7  (bqWizard not currently compatible with 64bit system)

I am using another machine running XP SP2.

The OS for the bqWizard machine has always been XP SP2 for this project.

I have tried different PCs, reinitializing the bq78pl116 with no change in behaviour.  Do you have any suggestions?

Please try the following (results from brainstorming your issue):

Open the  Pack Configuration Utility and create a new tmap file (with bqWizard3.2) and load it in. Then sending commands to 0x80 and 0x81 will work. After the device contains an updated tmap (from bqWizard3.2), you can then save a dat file and use that afterwards to clone other devices.

I have tried that several times.  After generating a TMAP file and loading it in bqWizard 3.2, I read address 0x80 using the SBData read/write utility and it returned 0x00, gateway ready.  I then wrote 0x1A91 to 0x80, then wrote 0x2348 to 0x81, then read 0x81 which returned 0x00.  If I read the hardware configuration register from within bqWizard it returns 0x0731.  Am I missing something?

Looking closely at the commands you are writing, I think you might have an error.

I assume you are trying to read the Hardware Configuration .. This will be:  Wirte 0x2448 to 0x80  Then Read 0x81

The usage section of  SLUA591 gives some examples.

Sorry about the typo in the posting.  I was writng 0x2448 to 0x80. 

Is there any way to be able to read/write the Algorithm Enable register without BQWizard or the API?
