I am integrating two 200mAh LiPo batteries into my system. Because they do not come with any protection circuitry, I am designing it into my system. I would like to construct a 3.7v 400mAh pack, which requires wiring the cells in parallel. However, I have a few questions. I would really like to use something like the BQ29312 protection IC and BQ2084 Gas Gauge combo on page 63 of this document, however it only handles 7.4-14.8v packs, not 3.7v. Additionally because I want to wire two cells in parallel, how do I balance their discharge and how do I use them with any of TI’s products?
Since this is 1s2p (one series, two parallel) you can use any single-cell TI gauge and treat it like one larger pack. The balancing is automatic since they are connected in parallel so you don't need to worry about it. Some gauges to look at are bq27541-G1/bq27545-G1 (for pack-side) or bq27520-G4 or bq27620-G1 for system-side.
