BQ78PL116 .chem file creation, how to?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL116, BQWIZARD, BQ27500

I am using the bq78pl116 for my LIPO batteries, I have made my board and I can connect and communicate with it, I can set it up and now I am stuck on the .chem file selection.

I cannot see any file for the lipo chemistry, and I have to do it myself.

How can I make this file?

what is contained in this?

how to generate it?

  • Stefan,

Do you know whether there is a ChemID, in the TI portfolio, assigned to the cell that you are using? If you do not have experience with ChemIDs, then you can use the Chemistry Updater to download the latest ChemIDs to your computer. (Search for Chemistry Updater in the TI website and use the Gas Gauge Chemistry Updater Setup file.) There will be an excel file that shows the ChemID/cell assignments. If you find a good ChemID, then you can use the ChemistryUpdater in bqWizard to add the ChemID to your PL116 database. It is located on the Utilities/Add-ons menu.

    Tom

i know about chemid`s but cannot find lipo batteries in there.

I will try on monday to do a log on discharging the pack(6s lipo) with c/10 and then use the mathcad to find one good, if I will not be able to do that I will be stuck again.

what can I do to make a chem file if the log matching will not work?

  • TI can characterize your cell and create a new ChemID, if we cannot find an acceptable match.

  • After lots of tries to find the chem ID I gave up and I need your help.

Attached it`s the file logged with bq78pl116

there is time, current in 1000mA/10 so 100 in the column means 1000mA, voltage multiplied by 1000, and temperature in Kelvin.

I have tried to use bq27500 mathcad sluc138cd script but without success.

    What have I done wrong?

Can someone help me finding the right chem file? and maybe if you have time explain me what I did wrong?

    thank you

    11000mA 6s Lipo cell.rar
  • I forgot to mention.

I have used some lipo cells 6s 11000mA pack.

    if this helps.

the log process was as follows:

before start I have charged the cells

then started the log and let the pack rest for 2h (can be seen in log)

then discharged with 1A/h until one cell dropped below 3V (unfortunatelly I have set in log just the 1st cell voltage, and the second cell dropped below 3V)

after discharge (about 10hours) I let it rest and keep log for next 8 hours or so(over night).

  • Stefan,

Mathcad predicts ChemID 1148 to be an acceptable match for your data.

    Tom

  • how did you do it?

I want to try out myself so in the future I know how to find it.

    thank you.

  • How to update my database with the chem files?

I have chem files just untill 1102.chem file

    I cannot find the 1148.chem.

    Can you please help?

    Thank you.

  • I have installed bqeasy and coipied from there the 1148.chem file to bqwizzard and updated to uC and it`s working. so done.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Stefan,

I hope that you continue to get good results.
