bq78PL114, one led, SOC 100%

We use the bq78PL114S12 for a few years now.

During last production, we noticed something strange with the LEDs. The first time we check the SOC status, only one led turns on. When we push the button a second time, all leds turns on (which is correct, because the batteries are fully charged).  This happens only the first time for most produced batteries.

Is something wrong? Do you have an idea how this problem can be caused?

  • Wim,

I have not seen this and do not have any errata in the documentation. I will have to bench test it to try to provide more information. You said that only one LED is displayed the first time that the button is pressed and then reports properly on the second press. What about third, fourth and fifth presses? Was the pack in Standby mode when the button was pressed the first time?

  • We had this behavior with 50 produced batteries. Most of the time the issue was solved by pressing two times on the button. Sometimes it took several retries. After the leds work normally, the wrong behavior didn't return (even after pushing the button 20 times).

The batteries are programmed and tested with the API in the production facility. I shall check with them if something is changed in the testsystem.

Can it be caused by an API command?
