which will be suitable to instead BQ27500-V130

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27500-V130, BQ27500, BQ27520-G4, BQ27510-G3, BQ27510

Hello:

I have used BQ27500-V130 to perform the faul gauge of  the battery of my design, and almost finished my design now , but I got the information that this ic  is now not recommanded in new design because it has been stopped  production.

So I want to know which is suitable for us to instead BQ27500, our agency recommand that we used BQ27510-G3, but I cannot find it from the product tree of website of ti,  I can find BQ27520-G4.

Can you give us some advice?

Thanks a lot.

  • The product page for the bq27510-G3 is here: http://www.ti.com/product/BQ27510-G3

I just checked the product list and indeed, it is not listed in there. The '510 is still listed as active and I don't think it will transition into NRND any time soon (can someone from TI provide some insight about this?).

The bq27510-G3 and bq27520-G4 have very similar functionality, just with a different package (the '520 also has a few more pins, such as a Chip Enable pin for the LDO regulator). The '520 has a Technical Reference Manual (TRM) available (SLUUA35), but the '510-G3 is still being worked on.

  • Hello Jason

Thanks so much for your reply.

Yes, I still can search bq27510-G3 from the website , but I really cannot give a decision to use it , just because I cannot  find it from product list and I don't know when it will transition into NRND.

I fact , bq27510-G3 is a little more suitable for us than bq27520-G4 because of it's package is SON and it's easily to solder.

  • We have no plans to NRND the bq27510. The latest version is the bq27510-G3. Like you say it is a useful device because of the package. It is not wafer chip scale package like the bq27520. It is the same functionality as the bq27500 but integrates its own power LDO for direct connection to the battery. The bq27500 requires an external LDO to power it. Please feel secure to use the bq27510-G3. The original bq27510, the G1, G2, etc are NRND because firmware was updated to G3. But we have no plans to NRND the product overall.

  • Hello Richard

Thanks for your reply so quickly.

Then we will use bq27510-G3 at our product.

  • I want to comment about the meaning of NRND.  Although it stands for "Not Recommended For New Designs", it does NOT mean the same thing as Obsolete.  NRND devices can still be ordered.  NRND does NOT mean that TI will stop producing and selling it.  We usually make a device NRND simply to point customers to newer and hopefully more suitable products.  We know there are already so many choices that it can be confusing, so we are trying to reduce the number of options to help ensure you pick the newest part that will hopefully meet your needs better.

The message I'm trying to explain is that NRND is NOT Obsolete.
