bq27541-G1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27541-V200, BQ27541-G1, BQSTUDIO

I'm using the bq Evaluation software pack with the older version of bq27541-V200, among other thing I use to do the "learning cycle".

However when I'm attaching the new bq27541-G1 fuel gauge I can't get the option of "learning cycle" on the bq Evaluation software screen.

how can I do the learning cycle for my battery pack mounted with the bq27541-G1 ?

  • The bq27541-G1 actually uses bqConfig for configuration, calibration, chemistry selection, and the learning cycle procedure. You can download it from here:

  • Dear Chase,

I did tried to use bqconfig 1.5.5, however I can find how to do the learning cycle on bqconfig 1.5.5 .

can you tell me were and how Ican operate the "learning cycle" om this program ?

  • You will need to perform the learning cycle manually. There is a link to a document that describes the learning cycle procedure in bqConfig. You will need a power supply and a load (or power resistor). The learning cycle is the last thing you will do before creating your golden file. Here is the learning cycle procedure:

    1) Discharge battery to Terminate Voltage at C/5 rate (data flash parameer).

    2) Rest 5 hours.

    3) Send IT enable command (0x0021 to 0x00)

    4) Charge to full at typical CCCV charge rate. Taper must be met (FC bit will set).

    5) Rest for 2 hours.

    6) Discharge to empty at C/5 rate.

Update status should be 06 at the end of the procedure. It is recommended to use Gauge Studio or EVSW to log during this procedure so that if anything goes wrong we can troubleshoot. One second logging is recommended.

  • Thanks.

I'll manage from here, however I must say that I'm very disappointed that  TI didn't bother to develop a "learning cycle" script for the bq27541-G1 within all the fancy gas gauge software tools.

  • Just to make everyone aware - bqConfig is an older, outdated tool which has been obsoleted. However, the bq27541-G1 is now supported by the latest release of bqStudio, which also includes a learning cycle tool.

    Thanks,

    Terry
