Data read from the Manufacture Access register is usually useless. The register is used to write data to the device. Which calibration routine were you running when the error occurred? Which other calibration routines had been run prior to this one?

ANS: During CURRENT/VFC GAIN.

Hi Serge,

Is the problem with one unit, or with a whole bunch of them? Is this a new project, or just a single defective returned unit? Is the problem happening on the TI EVM or in a custom implementation?

I'm using eval boards SLUP023 Rev.c(bq2060aEVM), EV2200 rev C and Evaluation software bq2060 version 3.1.2

Not sure, I'll confer with colleagues. This is a very old device, not recommended for new designs for many many years now.

bq2060A is an old device ?

Yes, 15 yrs.

Which device can I use for NiMH battery ?

Is bq34z100-G1 disponible for new design ?

Is there an EVM board with this chip ?

The EVM is available online. Search for the bq34z100EVM. It can be reprogrammed with the -G1 firmware and bqStudio and the firmware are available for download from the bq34z100-G1 website.

I am having an EV2200 REV.C (Interface Development Tools EV2200 PC Interface Board) with me, can i use this module with "Bq34z100EVM 1s to 16s Impedance Track Fuel Gauge Battery Evaluation Module | Gas Gauge Battery"  for PC communication instead of EV2300.    we are planning to purchase the Bq34z100EVM.

According to our application BQ34110 and BQ34Z100-G1 were option for use but BQ34110 is used for rarely discharged application so we finalized BQ34z100-g1 gas gauge IC. our battery is nimh 12v 1200mAh.

So now we are purchasing "Bq34z100EVM 1s to 16s Impedance Track Fuel Gauge Battery Evaluation Module | Gas Gauge Battery" and "EV2300USB - Based PC Interface Board for Battery Fuel (Gas) Gauge Evaluation".

For BQ2060A gas gauge study we done following steps:

1. Purchased SLUP023 REV.C BQ2060AEVM, EV2200 REV.C

2. read datasheet and EVM manual for set up, there were BQ2060A register function table of battery data, which is to be read from bq and EEPROM memory map, where we store battery info. like nimh ,which is provided as example which helped for start. same thing will be possible with BQ34z100?

3. We have done calibration from GUI, which was easy. we have done charge, discharge cycle with GUI EV2200-60 and observed the important parameter.

 4. After this we communicated our controller with BQ2060a but did not know the calibration procedure w/o GUI so you provided the procedure pdf and we able to calibrate from our controller. 

above are the steps we followed for BQ2060A, can you provide us the steps to understand/study the BQ34z100. If any extra docs required for this Bq34z100 please tell us.
