Hello

I've acquired this EVM because I was interested on low footprint area and the possibility of using just a I2C interface to access both gauge and charger.

The problem is that somehow the I2C interface used between BQ27532 and BQ24250 seems not be working. On the board there are 2 jumpers, JP4 and JP5 connecting the I2C clock and data pins. These jumpers are connected, and as I understand, it's the only setup needed on hardware.

Operating the BQ27532 software, I see that the ChargerStatus register is always with ERR bit set (bits WAIT_CMD and WFAIL change accordingly). I tried to enable/disable the charger I2C interface several times (GG_CHRCRCTL_ENABLE / GG_CHRGRCTL_DISABLE), but nothing happens. I've already tried to communicate directly with BQ24250 charger using another I2C adaptor (unplugging JP4 and JP5 off course), and it works normally.

Is someone there having the same problem?

In addition to the 2 jumpers that are populated, can you also confirm that the following jumpers are also connected:

J2: D- to VSS

J15: to SYS

J4: CE to VSS

J18: VCC to PULL_UP

That should be the default configuration. Also, make sure that you have a battery connected to the PACK+/PACK- terminals, the thermistor connected to TS-Gauge, and the power supply for the charger should be hooked up to the SYS input.

I don't know if it's a revision difference, but this is my board:

It's a bit different from TI's site: www.ti.com/.../bq27532evm-656

I connected bq27532's REGIN to BAT instead of connecting it to SYS. I've also left SYS opened and I'm powering bq24250 on VIN. It makes no sense to me to use SYS pin to power the charger. Isn't it for connect the system load?

Ah, yes. I meant connect power supply for the charger to VIN, not SYS.

Anyway, it's all connected accordingly. But it still doesn't start the periodic communication between gauge and charger.

Plase copy the attached file to the C:\ti\BatteryManagementStudio\config directory. It will ask you to overwrite the existing file. Then, reboot the computer just to make sure bqStudio is cleared completely from memory. If it still does the same thing, can you attach screenshots of the Registers screen and any errors that pop up. Also, if you can read out an SREC file from the Golden Image tab, that would be useful as well.

It looks like the gauge is not reading Reg3 and Reg4 of the charger. This may be what is causing the ERR flag to be set. If I load your srec on an EVM here everything is the same except those two registers and the calculated and programmed charging voltage and current. I would suggest contacting support.ti.com and request a replacement EVM if you don't have another one to test on. You can reference this thread.

I'm going to use BQ27532 and BQ24250 in my project.
There is now EV2300 driver for Windows 8.
Do you have any code example to share or demonstrate?

I'm going to use TI's BQ27532-G1 with BQ24250.
My MSP432 communicates via I2C interface.
Do you have proper I2C driver?
Or example, or any other code that may assist, instead of developing from the scratch.
