bq40z50: Advanced Charging Algorithms settings, if not used

Let me start by stating that I am NOT using the Advanced Charging Algorithm function for our product. But...

For the Low, Standard, High, and Recommended temperature ranges, I've set the voltages to the same value because I believe they are used to determine charge termination, and I also set all the Charging Current settings (Low, Med, and High) to the same value (as recommended by Tom Cosby).

Should I also set up the temperature ranges (T1, T2, T5, T6, T3, & T4) to at least encompass our temperature range, and set the Voltage Ranges (Precharge, Low, Med, and High) to the same value?

I'm worried that there might be some shared values in the Advanced Charging Algorithm that are used to determine other alarms or other conditions that I am using.

Thanks.

  • You could set the voltages to the same value, except for the Precharge Start Voltage. You should set it to a low threshold where the gauge does not enter precharge mode. You could set the T1, T3 and T4 temperature thresholds to use the Charge Inhibit and Charge Suspend features or disable them in the FET Options configuration register. In that case the temperature thresholds will not matter.
