BQ27200; corrupted registers during assembly?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27200, BQ27742-G1, BQ27541-G1, BQ27000, BQ27010, BQ27210

Hello,

A customer of ours just received their first production run with the BQ27200 devices being pre-programmed and then assembled.  Some have issues with bad register values.  It appears, at the moment, that somewhere between being programmed and final assembly some of the devices got a corrupted register value.

Is anyone aware of such an issue with these parts?  In the general case even?

Also, this part is EOL and I am looking for a recommendation for a replacement to the BQ27200.

Regards,

Dave

  • bq27200 and bq27000 were moved to NRND status because the bq27210 and bq27010 have improved algorithms. They should be drop-in replacements, except for some slightly different registers. However, even those are fairly old and you might consider an Impedance Track gauge like bq27541-G1 or bq27742-G1.
The bqJunior family (including bq27200) require very precisely formed voltage pulses during the EEPROM programming sequence. Use a scope to check the rise and fall times and ensure they match the datasheet requirements very closely or the data may not get programmed robustly. There have also been reports of some ultrasonic welders that seal the plastic around the packs having inadequate RF shielding and causing issues.
  • I see, thank you for the information.  I will look into a stopgap measure of using the BQ27210 and then moving to something newer like the ones you mentioned.

It turned out that the parts were simply programmed wrong and when we tried to re-program there was a conflict on the comm with the software (owing to the odd hdq vs i2c behavior).  So the specific problem was resolved and the general problem has some hope now as well.  Thank you.
