Fuel Gauge bq20Z655-r1 Chemistry File.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, BQ20Z655-R1

I am using a bq20z655-r1 and Saft cells MP174565 4800mAh

I recently reinstalled the bqEVSW from: www.ti.com/.../sluc304

At I start of bqCHEM : Warning! Communication with target device can not be established...
Do you wish to ignore future errors?I click {NO] - (However I can read and write using Data Flash and .gg files or read with SBS)

click [Yes: enable Chemistry Selection],
scroll and select MP174565 4800mAh then click [OK Update fuel gauge Data Flash],
Error at Match_Template : Cannot find the Device encr file click [OK],
Chem file did not match any template. Please get in touch with TI to sort this out. click [OK],
Proceed at your own risk click [OK],
Proceeding to Program Chem file .... click [OK],
Fail read verify. Abort SubClass83 programming click [OK],
Fail read verify. Abort SubClass84 programming click [OK],
... on and on
Fail read verify. Abort SubClass95 programming click [OK],
Cannot found ENCR file. IT Cfg will not be updated click [OK],

Thanks,
Jon

  • I checked the bq20z655-R1 product folder and it looks like the wrong bqEVSW setup program is referenced. I will get this fixed, but I can provide a link to download it earlier if you can provide an email address.

  • Thomas,

Thank you, that would be great...

    Best regards Jon

  • Hi

Whan I  select chemistry . EVSW program give this " cannot find device encr files"

    I have  EVSW bq20z655-R1 V0.03

Would you help me to solve this problem ?

Is there full Manual of EVSW to design project and examples?

  • Seems to me TI produces bq20z655-R1 but cannot/chooses not to support them, everything software related tied to this chip has bugs, OR simply does not work.

Chemistry updater does not work with bq20z655-R1
TesterDFReader does not work with bq20z655-R1

Without these tools, I do not know how to get the single or multi station tester software to work, since you cannot generate a .rom file.

You may want to pick an IC that TI does support.
  • Update:  The bqDFReader seems to be working, with new “targets” file from Thomas.

bqTester working with new “targets” file, but still will not program .rom file without errors.

Question:  Can you please help get this working without errors?

  • I am currently seeing another problem, that may be related to the chemistry selection:

The packs' full charge capacity is decreasing for an unknown reason when discharging/cycling battery packs at a lower than maximum discharged capacity (85% was used in latest tests). This causes the packs to report that they have ASOC of 0% when the cells have 10% or larger charge capacity in them. I tested 4 packs which reported a Full Charge Capacity of about 82% of the rated capacity after 7 cycles.
  • Please provide the log file showing the problem and a senc file from the pack and I will cehck them. I will have to retest the chemistry updating problem.
  • Tom,
I sent you a SENC file, and will send you a log file tomorrow.
  • WaterSkier,
Wondering if this was resolved? Did you send the files, or find a solution?
