BQ40z60 - After writing to Data Memory cannot exit ROM mode.

Using our prototype boards and software we are able to enter ROM mode, read Data Memory and exit consistently with out any problems, Then testing out the ability to write data memory we chose a seemingly unused section to write 32 bytes starting at 0x5000 and verified by reading it back. After this we could not get it to exit ROM mode, We could still read Data Memory, but after a day all that we could read back were 0xFF. What did we do to the part and how can we recover?

Is there some document that shows the preferred method to write data memory?

The data at address 5000 is not a section of memory that you should be writing, so the flash contents are probably corrupted. You should be able to reload the default srec file and recover the device, if it is still in ROM mode. You can still use the read block and write block commands the change data, but check the addresses first. The addresses for parameters can be found in on the Data Memory screen. You may have to go to Window >> Preferences >> Data Memory and export all columns to see them.

At this point Battery Management Studio can't communication with the part (all but USB grey on the DashBoard). Any attempt of read only results in a 17 17 with a PEC of 17. Any other suggestions?

The 17 17 means that the gauge is in ROM mode. Have you tried programming the srec file, even though it says that you cannot communicate? If you cannot get the srec to load, then the device is not recoverable.
