EV2300 and WindowsXP x64

The EV2300 driver doesn't support x64 platform. Our next generation comm. interface HW and driver, which is under development, will be able to handle that.

I'm in the same boat as Ed. Do the drivers support Windows 7? I can remove my 64-bit XP and install WIn 7 if that will help.

We do have driver that will support 32 bit Vista and Win 7. See the attached file.

But it doesn't support XP even though it is in the name of the file?

It will also work on 32 bit XP

My company uses the bq20z80/bq29312A chipset in our batteries.

We are currently migrating to Win 7 x64 which means I will no longer be able to use the EV2300 with the bqEVSW to program batteries.

From your posts it sounds like TI will be rolling out a major hardware/software upgrade in Q2 2011 ("next generation platform (new hardware)").

I hope the development of x64 USB drivers for existing equipment has already been completed.

Sorry I bad. The x64 support will be on a new hardware platform, not EV2300. The new release will include hardware and its drivers. Targeting to release on Q2/2011

Basically, I am trying to find out if I need to retain some lab computers running XP to be able to continue using your products as you feel it unnecessary to release x64 drivers for the EV2300.

The EV2400 is the successor for x64 support and EVSW will work with EV2400 once EV2400 is released.

You lost me there.  The EV2300 communicates with the host via USB.  AFAIK USB doesn't care if the host OS is 32 bit or 64.

That's what the driver is for.

The EV2300 USB translation function is provided by a TUSB3210.

In another forum, Ismael Duron, a TI employee, has provided an apploader driver that works for both 32-bit and 64-bit XP/Vista.

If an apploader for the TUSB3210 exists that will operate under x64 it seems unlikely that a "hardware limitation" would prevent use of the EV2300 in such an environment.

It appears that your decision not to provide a 64 bit driver for the EV2300 is solely designed to push people to buy your new hardware when it gets released.

Thanks for pointing that out.  I don't know the details but I'll try to find them out.  Maybe it's not only greed, but there could be other nefarious reasons like our guys are too lazy to make 64 bit drivers...

It's been a week - have you found a reason for not offering 64 bit drivers for the EV2300 ?

The difficulties stem from the legacy nature of this product.  Long, long ago, the EV2300 began more as an engineering tool without plan for official widespread release.  As our gauges become more popular in the mass market the easiest thing was to package it up and offer it, despite it not being ready for prime-time.

As you may have noticed, each time you plug the EV2300 into a new USB port it has to go through the process to install two drivers.  You also get the warning that this is not certified by MS.  The EV2300 is using the default product ID of the TUSB chip, which is the main reason for the problems.  Technically it should have its own unique product ID stored on some non-volatile memory, but this wasn’t designed onto the board and this is why it can’t be MS certified.  

The hardware limitation previously mentioned is this lack of EEPROM to store a product ID.  We don’t want to propagate a non-standard hack that would continue to interfere with other implementations of the TUSB chip a customer might be using.

This lack of an official USB product ID for the EV2300 has led to many of the numerous complaints from customers who have trouble installing the drivers for EV2300.  For example, if they were evaluating the TUSB chip and had installed those drivers it would conflict with the EV2300 drivers since the PC would be confused as to which ones should be used when it saw that product ID.

The EV2400 was designed from the ground up to be an optimal solution.  It will have a correct product ID.  It will use the HID drivers built into Windows.  It will work with 64-bit Windows.  It will allow 400kHz I2C communication, plus a bunch of other protocols and features.  It will avoid the incompatibilities and support nightmares of the EV2300.

For these reasons, the EV2300 will be “retired” in favor of the EV2400.  It’s not something we’ll make money on, but the goal is to improve our customers’ experience.  We apologize for inconvenience during the transition but thanks for bearing with us and for your patience while we get it done right..

I'm TI Disty FAE at Tawian. I also got a new Netebook PC with Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS. I try to download Visit/Win7 32bit driver. And install it. It's still not working. Do you have 64bit windows7 driver. I also install USB to GPIO driver for UCD30xx device. USB to GPIO can work.

Please read the post by dMax above. The EV2300 does not support Windows 64-bit. The EV2400 will, but it will not be released until sometime next year. For now, you will need to find a 32-bit system to use until the EV2400 is available.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but, both the EV2300 and the TUSB3210 chip contained therein are listed as "Active" products so it is reasonable that they would still be supported - at least until their successor becomes available.

As an x64 apploader driver already exists for the TUSB3210 I can only assume that x64 drivers exist as well.

Given the source code and appropriate utilities it seems as though it would not take an inordinate amount of time to create a set of x64 drivers and apploader for the EV2300.

It appears that TI is unwilling to sacrifice the time necessary to do this so perhaps the EV2300 should be taken off of the "Active" product list.

You have helped us with to move forward in a most efficient way, allowing us to work with our systems as they are rather than forcing us to step backwards. The EV2400 is now released.  The drivers were not included in the box and I can't seem to find them anywhere.  Do you know where I can get them?  Looking for Win 7 x64 drivers

Hi Adrian,

The EV2400 is a HID device (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_human_interface_device_class), so drivers should automatically load and install for the Windows 7 OS.

Specific software should then be available for whatever evaluation device you are using (for example, bq Series battery gas gauges).

I would recommend just plugging the EV2400 into your PC and see if the drivers load. I am eager to hear your results!

It looks like the drivers installed correctly, that's what windows says anyway.  The bq gas gauge evaluation software searches for an EV2300 during startup though and so it apparently doesn't work with the EV2400.  So far I haven't been able to find an equivalent for the EV2400.  Do you know where I can find this?
