BQ28Z610 TS1 Pin Functionality and BTP Feature Clarification

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610

Hello,

I was reading up on the Battery Trip Point feature of the bq28z610 fuel gauge and the technical reference manual states that the output is the TS1 pin on the IC.

The TS1 pin is the pin used for an external thermistor, which I will be using in my application since the Lithium-ion cell will not be in contact with the fuel gauge to use the internal thermistor. Taken from the bq28z610 IC datasheet, the description for the TS1 pin is shown below.

Forgive me if I am being literal here, but the TS1 pin definition sounds like the pin may be used as an analog input [and] a digital output simultaneously. My past understanding tells me that pins must be initialized as input or output prior to use so I would expect this to say one [or] the other, not [and]. If I need the external thermistor, is the BTP feature not an option? If both are possible, could you explain how this works?

Also, I need some clarification for the second and third highlighted lines in the image above. Does the BTP interrupt basically tell the host when the cell's state of charge has transitioned into either the orange or the green region as shown in my illustration below?

Thank you for your time.
