BQ34Z100-G1: BQ34Z100-G1

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100EVM, BQSTUDIO, GPCCHEM

Hello!

I have a doubte!

When you communicate with I2C with the integrated, if you haven't programmed any parameters in the BQ34Z100-G1, the values it gets are real? Or can it give totally weird things?

For example the voltage I have is 11V, an the integrated give mi 564....

  • The device is shipped to support a 1S configuration, so you will need to update a couple of parameters. Set the VOLTSEL bit in the Pack Configuration register and the Number of Series Cells to the proper value. You will then need to calibrate the Voltage and it should report properly.
  • Hello,

    Thanks for you answer.

Can we do this using only the Battery Management?

Is there any guide or tutorial explaining how to program it from this software ??

    Thanks

  • Ismael

The bq34z100EVM User's Guide provides the steps to configure the EVM. I would step through the precedures in that document. The bq34z100-G1 datasheet provides a design guidelines section to with creating a new design using the device.

You can use bqStudio to configure the data flash settings.

  • I try to configure the batery but i received this error:

  • Sorry I didn't it well before.

I am trying to configure the battery and I want to select this one because it is the most similar to the one I use,but I can't and Bq estudio always gives me this error.

    Does anybody have any suggestions?
  • Ismael

You can try using this .bqz file. Please it in the this directory.

    C:\ti\BatteryManagementStudio\config

    0044.0100_0_16-bq34z100G1.bqz

If that does not help, then you can try downloading the latest version of bqStudio from the TI website.

  • Hello Thomas , thanks for your answer.

I obtain the correct values of voltage, current , temperature.

But unfortunatly I'm doing something wrong and I don't have reals values of state of charge, average time to empty and full.

    I'm using a 4 cells LiFePO4 battery. of 3.2vvolts and nominal capcity: 850 mAh

I selecct in the baterry management studio in the Chemistry program the FC1865 (1700mAh)

I think that the problem is in the .gg  o sren file, because i changed some parameters but i don't find exactly how to find this parameters.

Could someone help me telling exactly what parameters i need to change??

Has someone any example of configuration??

    Thanks

    Thanks

  • Ismael
Can you attach the log file showing the problem and an srec from the pack? This will help in providing a recommendation.

  • Hello I attched the files!!

  • Sorry, It was impossible to send all the documents in the same post!
  • Ismael,

The files indicate that you have not run the optimization cycle yet and gauging will not be accurate until you do this. You indicated that you have updated the ChemID. How did you determine that this one was a good match to your cells? You can use the GPCCHEM tool to find a good ChemID match. You can use the steps in this posting for help with running the optimization cycle.

    Tom

  • Thanks Thomas!

In order to start, what I need to do is this??
1º update the firmaware of BQ34Z100-G1 whih the default file (because i was playing with the parameters)
2º before to change any parameter, I need to do an optimization cycle with the GPCCHEM
3º I assum than if I do the optimization cycle the parameters will be reals and I don't need to change more things, it's true??
    4ª calibrate volts, and temperature....

    It's this the procedure??

    Thanks for your help
  • Ismael,

    The procedure is this.

    1. Configure the basic parameters in the data flash.
    2. Calibrate the pack
    3. Use the GPCCHEM tool to find a good ChemID match for your cells.
    4. Update the ChemID.
    5. Run the optimization cycle.
    6. Verify gauging accuracy by running a few cycles.
    7. Create the golden file for production packs.
