BQ78350: strange behavior on connecting load to BQ76940EVM with 14S10P configuration

Part Number: BQ78350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ76940EVM, EV2400, BQ76930, , BQ76940

Hi,

I am a beginner to BMS and currently working on BQ76940EVM with EV2400. Initially i got success in connecting 9S1P with EVM and connected load successfully. I monitored this setup with BQstudio. After verifying this i moved to my new package 14S10P... but the problem comes in when i connect load to this package. On connecting load DSG=0 and SS=1, XDSG=1 which takes EVM to safe mode. I configured DATA Memory settings according to the package and chemistry, but still not getting what is the reason for this error. I think i am missing something in configuration. Need help over this. thank you

  • Rishi,
Does the bq78350-R1 report any safety or PF faults on the bqStudio registers screen? Did you properly configure jumpers, shorts and and AFE Configuration register per the table on page 28 of the "bq76930 and bq76940 Evaluation Module User's Guide"?

  • Thomas,
    Thanks for your reply.

Yes i observed ASCDL & ASCD bits high in safety status register. Here is my connection details for the setup:

battery pack + is connected to BMS BATT + terminal
battery pack - is connected to BMS BATT - terminal
Load negative is connected to BMS PACK - terminal

The same connection is working fine if I connect the BMS with 9S1P battery pack.
  • Those are shorted load faults. What value load are ou applying? Have you tried a lighter load?
  • I have connected a 31-58volt to 12 volt DC-DC converter as a load ..this DC converter is driving a 35watt bulb.

is there any chances of wrong configuration in my data flash for the battery pack?

It will be helpful if i can get some details over configuration for 14S10P battery pack.

Another question: Is there any configuration setting to define the no of cells in Parallel?
