BQ40Z60: how can micro-controllers communicate with bq40z60 through SMBus?

hi Everybody,

I prefer to select bq40z60 ( complete power management IC: charger + gauge + protection ) if possible for a portable test equipment.

the IC has only SMBus interface.

is it possible to communicate it with uC and how?

Yes it's possible to communicate with SMBus. You need to select a micro that supports SMBus protocol. TI MSP430 and MSP432 should be considered. bq40z60 product page has app notes and technical reference manual with info.

is it possible to implement SMBus with other MCUs such as tms320f28 series?

Hi Rasool,

I'm not familiar with the tms320f28 series controllers. I would recommend you posting this question to the MCU e2e forum. Someone there will be able to give you better guidance on the capabilities and implementation of SMBus.
