BQ28Z610: where should to be connected the adapter and the load?

Part Number: BQ28Z610

hi Everybody,

i am working on a battery based system with bq28z610 ( complete charger+ gauge + protection IC ).

there is a simplified schematic in the datasheet:

where am I to connect the adapter and the load?

regards,

Rasool

  • The charger and load should be connected acrosd Pack+ and Pack -. bq28z610 doesn't have integrated charger.
  • "bq28z610 doesn't have integrated charger." can you please consider chapter 4 of the reference ( SLUUA65B ) and resolve my ambiguity?

also please find the bellowing link:

  • Hi Rasool,

The bq28z610 monitors the cell voltages, current, and temperature, and can calculate what charging voltage and current should be used under the existing conditions. It can also broadcast those values to a smart charger over I2C. However, it does not actually integrate the charger, which would connect to an adaptor voltage and control the actual voltage and current provided to the cell. For that, you need the separate charger IC. The bq28z610 will monitor a charging operation and determine when charging "should" be terminated (i.e., proper charge termination), but the charger IC may not actually stop charging at that point, it could potentially keep charging beyond that point, depending on how it is controlled (such as not being controlled by the broadcasts from bq28z610, but if it makes decisions autonomously about when to stop charging).

    Thanks,

    Terry
