BQ40Z50-R1: Setting TCA for charge termination

Hello,

in the TRM of bq40z50-r1 under chapter 4.6 "Valid Charge Termination" it says that if a valid charge termination happens, BatteryStatus[TCA] and GaugingStatus[TCA] will be set to 1 if SOCFlagConfig B[TCASETVCT] = 1. However the register reference for SOC Flag Config B or SOC Flag Config A (chapter 4.2.1.8) does not show any TCASETVCT bit. Also in Battery Management Studio I can't find TCASETVCT in the flag config registers. Is the setting available or not?

I'm asking, because the old bq20z80 set the TCA bit if a valid charge termination happened and the bq40z50-r1 seems not to do this. Our charging station however uses this bit among others to detect end of charging and we would like to keep it compatible to both BQs.

Hi Onyx,

yes, [TCSETVCT] is already set to 1 in my config (Description: Enable TC flag set ...).

I had a closer look at the charge termination and I observed that [TCA] is indeed set for several seconds (because [TC]=1 and CHARGE mode). However after leaving charge mode, the bit is reset.

The bq20z80 did not have this behavior, because with CHGTERM[9]=1 the [TCA] bit will not be cleared.

Do you see a way to make the bq40z50-r1 behave like the bq20z80?

After leaving charge mode, having the TCA staying set is redundant. So there is no way to make the device behave like the bq20z80
