EV2300: Battery Management Studio Software

Part Number: EV2300

Support Path: /Product/Development and troubleshooting/

I have installed "Battery Management Studio Software" into PC run with Window 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and another PC run with Window 7 Flag Ship (32 bit. But after I selected the target of "1E9B_1_03-bq78350_R1.bqz". Both PCs displayed "The detected device is not compatible with this application! Some actions could cause the device to lose communication permanently and ...... " and can't further proceed to firmware programming since it couldn't find the file for programming.

I have installed the EV2300 driver software into the PCs and use our PCM with bq76930 and bq78350 installed. This PCM is with SM Bus socket.

Please let me know what is the problem in my procedures.

  • Hi Chan,
You need to check to make sure your EVM board is properly powered on and functional. Are you following the instructions in the evm user guide. Pls see the video in the link below:

    thanks

  • Onyx,
Does your said EVM board just refer to the small box? I bought the EV2300 through DigiKey which had a controller box, one input cable and one output USB cable. There was no other board. My PCM has a SM Bus socket (4 wires), I connected that to SM Bus socket of EV2300. The PCM is also connected to 7 series connected cells during installation of bqStudio, the AFE is bq76930. I followed the instruction of SLVU925b for installation. It seems no EVM user guide in website but only a specification for EV2300 interface board (SLUU159e). I can't see the video through the link.
Please let me know the problem.

  • hi Chan
It is likely your device has an older firmware version for the bq78350. You need to download the latest srec from www.ti.com/.../sluc594

Select the device from the list that pops up after you start bqstudio and then go to the firmware button and browse to where the file is downloadded and program it. Can you verify what firmware version is on your ev2300? The firmware version of ev2300 would be on the dashboard on bqstudio to the left.

    thanks

  • Dear Onyx,

I can confirm that my EV2300 has problem. I applied my device, EV2300, to the same system of my PCM supplier. It couldn't work also. But if my installed software used with its device, even the software can communicate. So, I need to buy another one for testing.

My colleague informed me that he had ever inserted the plug into a wrong I2C socket, He found that sparking occurred during removing the plug from the device. Most probably the device was burnt.

If there is no other method to repair that, I would buy a new one.

  • Dear Onyx,

I have purchased another new EV2300. It can communicate with the Battery Management Studio Software. It seems no problem for the EV2300. Now, I face another problem is that I use the software by trial and error only because I can't find any manual of this software. Now, I can see basic data of the bq78350 but I cannot change the settings. Please check how I can get the descriptive manual for this software.

  • Hi Chan,
pls refer to the user guides and technical reference manual of the bq78350 and the bq76930 devices for instructions on how to use the tool. There is also a lab demo of the bq769xx

  • Hi Chan,
The software has built-in documentation under the Help > Help Contents selection. This is general for the various tools in the bqStudio.
As Onyx indicated, for specifics of using bqStudio with the bq78350-R1, see the bq76940EVM user guide, http://www.ti.com/lit/slvu925. Note that the user guide points to the bq78350 documentation, the bq78350-R1 is newer and recommended, but be sure to use the references for the version you are using. The technical reference manual for the gauge will have details of the gauge operation.
