BQ34Z100-G1: Cannot update EV2300 firmware using EV2400

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400

Hello,

I have tried to Update the EV2300 device using EV2400. After installing the components:

the program: http://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/180/3225.EV2300FWUpdaterUnprogDev.zip

did run. However, I could not program the EV2300 using EV2400. Following the instructions after clicking program I got:

This is how I connected the boards:

The J7 jumper was attached. I have noticed that after connecting USB to the EV2300 with jumper attached, there is no enumeration on the PC nor leds on the board. I dont know either this is the right behavior. I would appreciate all help.

  • Hi Lukasz,
It's possible that the updater SW may not be 100% compatible with EV2400 as it was written before EV2400 was created. Please send me a friendship request and we will see how to get you over this hurdle.
  • Hello,

I have just connected the EV2300 devices like described in the PDF again. I receive different error now:

    I would appreciate further help.

  • Hi Lukasz,
Does it try programming and show that error, or show it as soon as you click Next?
The latest FW is actually 3_1r. Is the 3_1m.srec present in the same directory as your .exe file?
  • Hello, thanks for answer,
Yes its in the same directory. Thats the only srec in there. The error occurs after 1-2 seconds maybe? I dont know either it tries to program. What can be done to overcome this?
  • Which file is in the directory and which file is the target according to the GUI?
    *3_1r.srec or *3_1m.srec?
Maybe you could attach a screenshot of your GUI before you click program and also a screenshot of your directory contents.
  • Hello,

    Here are the screenshots:

    Before I click program:

    The error:

    Whats inside the folder:

So all names and pathes seems to be fine. Do you know what could be the case?

  • Hello dMax,

I was finally able to upgrade the firmware. I succeed by accident by doping some more tests by trial and error out of desperation. I found it that the instructions provided in EV2300 Update Process.pdf is not exacly working for me (screenshot bellow):

By doing it this way, the DUT was not enumarating on the host via USB. What I did was this:

    1. Connect controller and DUT with each other using SMB.
    2. Connect controller via USB. If enumerated via USB go to pint 3. Otherwise keep reconnecting.
    3. Connect DUT via USB. At this point it rarely enumerated. In that case the red LED kept blinking. So at this point i kept reconnecting until DUT enumerated as some new kind of device (Windows host had to take a moment to config the connected device).
    4. Now after pressing program it went through.
