The file is being added now and should be available by Monday for downloads. However, I have attached it here so you can move forward. Please let us know what you think of the bq33100 as its a very new device and direction to us. Best regards Garry (Please visit the site to view this file)

Hi John, Its certainly an interesting approach to consider two bq33100's stacked on top of each other, but it will likely present some interesting voltage translation (or isolation) issues. Also, it will be virtually impossible to get all six caps to balance together. You might want to consider...

Hi Alexander, The key is energy. Your demand is the product of 20 Watts and the number of seconds for which the 20 Watts is required. Those watt-seconds (Joules) are used to calculate the size of the capacitance. Also, when the capacitors are discharged down to 7V, its important to understand...

Alexander, Sorry, I didn't notice yesterday that you are considering supercaps (aka: Ultracaps, DL-caps, EDLC, etc.) with such high ESR. Looks like such caps will not work for your application. - The nominal full charge for a 5-series stack is 2.1V per cell = 10.5 V total. - Using the large...

Alexander, If you need to reconfigure the firmware we can provide a script file that some customers have found useful. It consists mostly of hundred of line of text that look like combinations of the following, where WB means "write block" and DD means do delay. WW means "write word"...

The charging current does not flow through the bq33100 but an external FET controlled by the bq33100 CHG pin. Two other features to consider the Over Current During Charging (OCC) and Short Circuit During Charging (SCC), these should be configured to make sure that the bq33100 does not disable charging...

Hi Kevin, The current is limited by the values of R2 and R3. You can make them smaller to increase the current, but watch the power dissipation in Q1. Depending on the current and charger voltage, you may need a heat sink on Q1. Regards, Doug

The bq33100 EVM provides a constant current capacitance/ESR learning load of approximately 500 mA. Certainly there are applications where this value is too large, and others where this level of learning current is too small. The exact value is not critical, but here are some guidelines. First, its...

Hello guys. I am in the project, which i have to connect bq33100 evaluation board and msp 430 so that msp430 can read data from bq33100 evaluation board in runtime. I was curious if MSP430 can read data in runtime via JTAG. Or if JTAG is only to program MSP430. If this is not possible, I have to...

Hi, how can I use the bq33100 with 4-cell configuration? The datasheet says, VC5 must be shorted to VSS. Then I can save the bypass Mosfet at Pin VC5BAL and the VC5BAL stays unconnected?

I use the bq33100 EVM and EV2300. I want to control the CHG FET and start a learning cycle manually via SMBus. Which registers have to be set? I tried to trigger a learning cycle by setting the Register ManufactureAccess:Learn but it doesn´t work. (SS not set) Maybe someone can explain, how...

Is it possible to use the "Learn Mode" (0x23 on SBS) functionality when usually external circuitry to charge the capacitor? What benefits are there to doing a Learn Cycle? Lastly, what's the difference between Learn Initialization (SBS::0x25) and Learn (SBS::0x23)? Thanks, Sean
