Hi Alex, There should not be any issue using the bq78PL114 in a 12S UPS application. We do not provide a cell balancing status over the SMBus. I hope this helps. Regards, Nancy

The datasheet for the BQ78PL114 indicates the coulomb counter is accomplished using an 18-bit sigma-delta ADC. What is the conversion rate of the ADC; or more specifically, if the current is a dynamic signal, what will be seen or not seen by the counter?

PerBear Does it exist any description on how to design the powerpump external circuitry, or is the recommended procedure to do a circuit simulation? I have not received any feedback on this so it might be wrong forum, but I try once more: In SLYT322 a switching frequency of 200kHz and duty...

reagle Which chemistry ID would you suggest using for bq78PL114 with large LiFePo4 cells , such as PSI or Headway 38120S? These are not nanophosphates, so I am guessing chemistry 400 (A123) is not correct? Hi Reagle, I know nothing about PSI but A123 26650 and HeadWay 38120S has both 8mohm impedance...

On the bq78PL114 the four inputs for external temp sensors can be multiplexed for up to 12 external temp sensors. On the -S12 version, this oportunity has been removed and it is only possible to use four external temperature sensors. Additional sensors must be connected via slaves (bq76PL102 or bq76PL104...

Yes, enter a value of 1 in the aux file and in the formula. The terminology for the device for 4 series cells in parallel for example would be 4 series cells and 1 parallel cells, the pack would commonly be described as 4S1P. The parallel count for the device is 1 although there is nothing extra in parallel...

Hi, I just received the EVM for BQ78PL114 and played around with it. I then (mistake) changed the FIRMWARE to the S12 (FW5000) version. How do I change it back to the FW4452 version? The EVM files did not seem to include a file that can be used to revert back to the original sw. Regards Dag

BatteryMode() bit 14 (charger_mode )can not be set successfully via bqwizard. This bit defines, wether the charging voltage and -current is broadcasted to the SMbus or not. The default .slog file is acceptable to use. It is however important to use the characterize_12cell.dlog for any number of series cells. The characterize_12cell.slog will be included in the next update of the bqWizard.
