Q: BQ24140 by 1717657

 question on the BQ24140:

1) Is this device capable of working standalone without I2C? The end product will not interface with a microcontroller.

2)Would there be a one-chip solution one single cell?  Customer is wanting a device that can handle up to 4 cells.

The bq24140 will startup in standalone with the default settings.  These settings are well described in the datasheet.  The system must communicate with the bq24140 to change from the default startup standalone mode and change it to host control before an internal 15 minute timer times out.  If the bq24140 is not set to host controlled mode before the timer expires, it turns off.  If you don't need USB OTG, please consider using the bq2416x family.  It provides a standalone single cell charger solution.
