UCD9248 and UCD7242 current sensing and temperature monitoring

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9248, UCD7242, CD74HC4051

I have a design with two UCD9248 devices, controlling in total eight rails. All the rails uses UCD7242 drivers, in either single or dual phase configuration. The design works fine, with the exeption of Iout and Temp readings. No Iout reading reports any value below ~1.4 A, regardless of how small the load actually is. The IMON pins are connected to a 10 kohms resistor to ground in parallel with a 10 nF capacitor.

The temperature readings are also off the scale if I use the datasheet values with a gain of 10 mV/C and an offset of 0.47 V. When I use a gain of 15 mV/C and an offset of 0.7 V, the readings becomes more realistic. The TMON pins are connected to a 10 nF capacitor to GND and then via a CD74HC4051 analog mux to the Temperature pin on the UCD9248. The Temperature pin on the UCD9248 also has a 100 pF capacitor to ground.

Thanks,
Lukas

  • The current reporting from the UCD7242 has an offset which kicks in below 1/2 the ripple current in the output inductor, as defined in the datasheet, page 16.

With the given component values the following parameters should be configured as shown:

    IOUT_CAL_GAIN should be 200mohms.

    IOUT_CAL_OFFSET should be 0.0A.

    TEMP_CAL_GAIN should be 100 C/V which equates to 10mV/C.

    TEMP_CAL_OFFSET should be -47 C which equates to 0.47V.
