RE: GPIO-to-USB EVM Firmware

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9222, TMS320C6678, UCD90SEQ48EVM-560, UCD9090

In my project, i need to configure the UCD9222 to power TMS320C6678, however i use the usb to gpio adpter i can't find the device as the figure shows. I wonder how i should use the adapter. I download the PMBUS driver(PMBUS transport(USB HID).dll) as the user guide said, "USB interface adapter GUI.zip".

  • There is no need to install any additional drivers, the USB-to-GPIO adapter should be recognized aurtomatically by Windows as an HID device.

The fact that you are getting the window that you have included in your post indicates that the adapter is working correctly, it's just not finding any devices to connect with.

Can you provide the schematic for the power section of your system?

  • My problem is the Fusion program did not recognize the USB adapter plug-in on my WD7 PC. What should I do to overcome this? Here is the error message even the LED on the adapter is ON in GREEN!

  • Try using a GIF image, works well for me.

    Otherwise, add image as attachment

  • I just plugged the adapter to  another USB on the same computer and it's working! I also updated the USB-to-GPIO adapter f/w successfully to 1.0.11, same as in the UCD90SEQ48EVM-560 developing board. I tried again to plug the adapter to a different USB port on the same computer (WD7 PC), I noticed that sometimes the Fusion cannot detect the adapter present. Probably someone should look into this intermittent problem.

However, I now encounter another  problem about RUN_TIME_CLOCK Write Error on the UCD9090 as shown below. Is it the PMBus_CLK problem? How do I fix this? should I reduce the clock speed to 100KHz

  • I still cannot see the your error images but I suspect that the error you are receiving looks like the one below and  comes from turning off the bias to the UCD9090 while the GUI is attempting to update the sequencer with the latest clock value at the defined interval.

  • Hi Brad,

Can you give me your email address? I will send you the error messages. It's really frustration with the USB-to-GPIO adapter. One time it works, turning off the Fusion program and turning back on the Fusion program cannot see the adapter connected! I just reprogrammed the UDC9090 using the Fusion Manufacturing tool with scripts but after successfully programming, now my UCD9090 does not work anymore! I cannot see what's going on with the UCD9090 when the Fusion On Line cannot see the adapter. So many problems occurred at the same time but hopefully you can help me to make the Fusion program working with no intermittent with the adapter.

I could not find which driver for the USB-to-GPIO adapter in the WD 7 PC Device Manager when the adapter is plugged in under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Can you tell me which one? According to the sllu093 docs, the adapter is recognized by a PC as a generic HID but when I plugged the adapter in nothing changed in the Device Manager under HID list. Where can I download the following dll  driver and software below:

I2C/GPIO/PMBUS/SMBUS transport layer DLL driver (PMBus Transport (USB HID).dll) created by TI
    • Demo GUI software (USB SAA GUI.exe) for I2C/GPIO/PMBUS/SMBUS application
Both can be downloaded from the TI website in the file "USB interface adapter GUI.zip"

    Thank you.

  • It seems that latest TI-Fusion-Digital-Power-Designer-1.9.63 can recognize the USB-to-GPIO adapter better when unplugged and re-plugged to a working USB port, but still shown the error below when it was plugged into a different USB port on a HP EliteBook 8570w laptop with WD7:

  • This is a different issue from what was presented in the previous posts.

In this case, can you confirm that you are plugging the USB-to-GPIO directly into the host computer system and not into a USB hub/switch.  I've been told that the adapter doesn't play well when connected through a hub or switch.

Also, I tend to place my computer into sleep/hiberate frequently and occasionaly the USB ports become non-responsive to the USB-to-GPIO adapter.  After rebooting the issue is resolved.

Other than that I have not seen any issues with the USB-to-GPIO adapter not being recoqnized.

  • The adapter was plugged directly into a USB port on my HP Elitebook 8570w laptop with WD7, not to USB hub/switch. After updated the Fusion program to v. 1.9.63, I was able to run the Fusion program with the adapter connected to one USB port only. If I moved the adapter to another USB port, the Fusion program was not able to see the adapter connected. I did try to reboot the computer, but only one USB port works well and the rest of 3 often have problem. At one time there is another error shown as below. May be this error will shed some lights how to fix it.

  • The USB adapter uses a standard HID (Human Interface Device) driver.

The Fusion Digital Power Designer SW version has no relevance to whether the adapter is recognized or not.  The SW install does not include any drivers.

The problem may be specific to your particular model of computer or a driver conflict, have you tried the adapter on another host system?

  • Hi Chung, I'm having a similar problem. I've tried three different computers and two different USB-to-GPIO adapters, and none of them are seen as "attached" on any USB port. The OS (Win7 SP1) sees the adapter, but the TI GUI does not. Any thoughts?
  • It should appear under the Windows Device Manager as an HID-compliant device.

If I disconnect my USB-to-GPIO then one of these will disappear.

Do you get the following error when starting the Fusion Digital Power Designer?
