IinMon(of UCD9222) connection on C6657 EVM platform(eInfochips)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9222, UCD7242

Hello there,

I am evaluating the power management on C6657 EVM platform. I noticed that the IinMon pin of the UCD9222 is connected to the MCP9700AT temperature sensor output.

Does this mean the input current monitoring should be disabled and this pin is sampling the additional external temperature(this pin is used as Auxiliary ADC input 4 rather than input current monitoring)? The multimeter reads temperature sensor output at 890mv(with 470mv offset,10mv/c step), which indicates that the additional external temperature is 42c.

Now in Fusion GUI, Iin(when checked) consistently plotting 0A, while the external temperature is showing the temperature sampled from the UCD7242.

So, how to configure in the GUI to display the additional temperature which is sensed by the MCP9700AT?

I appreciate for your kind help!

Best regards,

Jeff

  • It appears that the DSP group is trying to use the IIN monitoring capability to monitor another temp input which can be done but isn't specifically supported by the Fusion GUI.  The MCP9700 output would need to be read by the Iin monitor with the IIN_SCALE_MONITOR configuration value set for the gain of the temperature sensor or 10mV/degC = 100degC/V but the offset would need to be taken out manually.

The default configuration that ships with the C6657 board has IIN_SCALE_MONITOR set to 0.0 which is why you read 0A from the GUI.  This needs to be changed to 100.0, from above gain conversion.  IIN on the monitor page will still display as Amps but this number will reflect the temperature read by the MCP9700.  There will be no offset adjustment included in the returned value, this will need to be done manually.  The offset in the MCP9700 is 500mV for 0 degC according to its datasheet, but 500mv will display on IIN monitor as 50degC, this is the offset.  All IIN monitor measurements will need 50 degC subtracted to get the actual temperature reported by the MCP9700.

On newer versions of the Fusion GUI the IIN_SCALE_MONITOR configuration parameter can be found on the Configure page on the Other Config tab.  It can also be found on all current and past Fusion GUI versions on the Advanced Config tab.

  • Hello, Brad,

Thanks a lot for your prompt response and detailed explanation. That's exactly what I need. A pity that 100 Ohm is out of range for Iin Scale Monitor parameter, anyway, 1 Ohm works as well.

    Best regards,

    Jeff
