UCD3138 digital PFC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138

Hi,

I have to questions regarding the design of the uCD3138 digital PFC control

(1) Is there any problem you see if the DGND on the UCD3138EVMPFC-026 board is connected to electrical ground through an electrical equipment  (network analyzer in my case).

(2) I would also like to clarify my understanding that the gate driver is not isolated to ground. Kindly correct me if not so.

Thank you,

Roshini Venkatesh

  • Roshini,

    (1) There is no isolation on the PFC side. The only isolation that is provided on the EVM is for a UART connector, and a secondary bias supply. You will probably see an issue. You should make sure that either your measurement instrumentation, or your input source is isolated, in order to prevent shorting grounds.

    (2) Correct: Gate driver is not isolated. It is referenced to PGND, which should not be connected to Earth Ground.
