PWM Power Controller issues while working at supply voltage of +5V source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9222, UCD9244

Hi,

I am using UCD9222 (2 Qty) and UCD9244 (1 Qty) in our board.

For my application, i have given +12V source to UCD9222 and UCD9244. It is working good. Here, the +12V is generated from the backplane and rise time of +12V source is 35Micro Seconds (us). In this condition, this PWM controller's are working good as per my program.

Then, I have connected +5V source to UCD9222. Here, the +5V is generated from the backplane and rise time of +5V source is 25Micro Seconds (us). Compare to +12V source, it is taking less time to give 5V from the backplane. In this condition, my PWM controller is not giving the output voltage from the module. When i put this card in different backplane, same this 5V section of PWM controller is not working. But, at same condition, +12V PWM controllers are working good. The difference of both the source is 12V having rising time of 35us and 5V having rising time of 25us.

Can you clarify whether any settling time is required for the UCD controllers when connected to 5V?

  • Hi Magalingam,

When the device is not working, can you communicate with the device using Fusion GUI?

If you can talk to the device using Fusion GUI, is there any fault reported in the Monitor page?

If you cannot talk to the device, please check V33D waveform at power up. The V33D rising slope must be monotonic. The V33D slew rate between 2.3V and 2.9V must be greater than 0.25V/ms.

    Thanks,
    Zhiyuan
  • Hi Zhiyuan,

I have measured the V33D during the power up time. Noticed that 3.3V is getting ramping up at 279.4us (Micro seconds). The slew rate from 2.3V to 2.9V is 127.4us (Micro seconds).

This time, i can able to communicate with PWM controller. But, i am not getting the output from the PWM controller UCD9222. But, where i am giving +12V input to the PWM controller, there i cn able to connect and get the output from the PWM controller.

Please find the timing details in the attachments.3.3V ramping time.pdf

    Please reply me.

    Regards,

    Magalingam

  • In Fusion GUI, under Monitor page, what fault does it report? Does it say Low Vin in red text?

  • Hi Zhiyuan,

Please hold this discussion. I have passed your request to our customer to take the report of the PWM controller status while connecting in the tool.
