UCD3138 DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE ISSUE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138

Hi Sir:

We're using the latest fusion digital power firmware download tool to download firmware to UCD3138  and found one issue;

When we continuously click the download button too quickly(bad mouse) , the firmware could be down loaded successfully;  but we can't  scan/find the device with GUI while the device still works;

Why?

I thought the download tool should be fool-proof for this;

thanks a lot;

  • I have tried it, and it is true that the download gets interrupted and restarted whenever you click again on the download button.  But I interrupted it a bunch of times, and I could finally use the device ID command to find the device.

    I did have to wait for all the error messages to come out, however.  Apparently there is an error generated many of the times you interrupt the download.

    I'd suggest waiting for all those to go by, exit download and then click on the Device ID on the top menu under tools, and see if the device is recognized.

    The repeated download gets a failure because it tries to erase the memory while some other operation is going on from the previous download, and the UCD NACKs it.

    Please let me know what you find with these suggestions.  If it is still not responding, try resetting the device and see what you get then, if the program can find it, either in ROM mode or with Device ID.

    In general, I'd suggest not programming the checksum for this kind of experiment, although the checksum should be the last thing programmed, so it shouldn't be possible to lock up the chip with this issue.

    But there could be some other issue.

  • The next build released for Fusion Digital Power Studio 3.0.3 and above will prevent multiple clicks by showing a dialog indicating that a download is already in progress.

    Build will be released by end of May latest.

  • Hi Ian:
    Thanks a lot; we found this in mass production so we have to set check-sum; our guy remembered that one unit can be scanned but we can't set it into rom mode; and also we can't calibrate the converter, so we have to rework UCD3138;
  • That's good news for us; thanks a lot
  • Are you using the Manufacturing GUI for mass production?
  • Hi Amiel:
    No , we're suing TI's GUI, the version is 2.0.70;
  • I suggest using TI MFR GUI - less user error. www.ti.com/.../fusion_mfr_gui
    The manuals are in the help menu. You basically use the script editor to create a script with your download options. You tell manufacturing to download the tool and use your script and then they just press start without clicking any options. The script can only be edited in admin mode which would only be you so they won't be able to cause any problems to your script and will only be able to execute it.
